RSU Plans Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Events

2009 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. January 19Rogers State University is planning a day's worth of campus and community events to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s life and work on Monday, Jan. 19.

During the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, RSU students will participate in campus and community activities that will emphasize community service and peaceful action.

The activities will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday, on Monday, Jan. 19, the official national holiday, with an opening ceremony featuring musical performances from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church by Rev. Rodger L.B. Cutler and the church's youth. The ceremony will be held in the Will Rogers Auditorium and also feature remarks from RSU President Dr. Larry Rice. This event is free and open to the public.

At 10:30 a.m., students will begin several community service projects to benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the RSU Child Development Center and the Claremore Veterans Center.

At 3 p.m., the film "In Remembrance of Martin" will be shown in room 207 of the Stratton Taylor Library, afterwards several professors will moderate a discussion about the documentary. This event is free and open to the public.
