RSU International Student Union to Present Free Cultural Festival Oct. 23-26
A Culture Extravaganza Festival featuring an international art exhibition, Korean folk dancing, Tai Kwon Do performance, ethnic food and more, will be presented at Rogers State University on October 23-26. The events, which are free and open to the public, will be held on the RSU campus in Claremore. The festival is being coordinated by the new International Student Union at RSU.
An International Art Show, which will be held Monday through Wednesday, Oct. 23-25, in the gallery of Baird Hall, will feature works of art from Kenya, Sri Lanka, China, Japan and Russia. An opening reception for the exhibition will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24. International food and entertainment will be provided.
Various events focusing on "The Rich Culture of Korea" will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 25. At noon, students and members of the public can have their photographs taken wearing traditional Korean clothing. Performances in Korean folk dancing by Weson Schorer of Claremore and performances in Tai Kwon Do by Master Han-Soo of the Yoon's Judo Tae Kwon Do School of Tulsa will be held at 4 p.m. in the RSU Student Union. A free Korean buffet, catered by the Korea Garden and Korean Grocery, will be served in the Foundations Gallery in Baird Hall at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The film "Stroke of Fire" a Korean film will be presented free of charge at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Room 107 of Baird Hall.
Rev. Hyeon Hoon Lee of the Oklahoma City First Korean Church of the Nazarene will present a free lecture titled "Korea and Christianity in the 21st Century" at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, in Room 207 of Stratton Taylor Library.
The Korean International Trade Association and Korean Tourism Organization have provided a $2,000 grant to promote Korean culture in U.S. universities. RSU is the only university in Oklahoma to receive this grant.
The RSU International Student Union is a new organization of students dedicated to building leadership skills and promoting social, cultural and educational diversity at RSU and in the community.
