OU Regents Approve Telecommunications Degree Option at RSU

Rogers State University has received initial approval to offer a new telecommunications foundations option for its bachelorís degree in business information technology.

The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents, which is RSUís governing body, approved the degree option during its Sept. 13 meeting held at RSUís Claremore campus. The proposal next will be sent to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for consideration.

University officials estimated the new telecommunications foundations degree option could be offered starting in 2006.

The university developed the degree option based on demand from student surveys, enrollment trends, demographic data and occupational outlooks, RSU President Dr. Joe Wiley said.

ďI am pleased that RSU can continue to expand our academic offerings to meet the growing demand for information technology and telecommunications specialists who are able to communicate effectively and who have a solid foundation of business knowledge,Ē Wiley said.

The telecommunications foundations degree option was developed in collaboration with the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa. RSU graduates who complete the degree option and want to continue their studies will be able to enter the telecommunication systems masterís degree program at OU-Tulsa.

The telecommunications foundations option at RSU builds upon the bachelor of science in business information technology coursework, with 12 hours of specialization through classes in fundamentals of electronics, electromagnetics, digital design and introduction to signals and systems.

Other options offered by RSU for its bachelorís degree program in business information technology include software development/multimedia and computer network administration.
