One-day workshop discusses breeding; eight-week course covers horseback riding
This spring, Rogers State University will offer a one-day workshop on the fundamentals of horse breeding, as well as an eight-week class on horseback riding.
The RSU Horse and Ranch Management program will present the one-day workshop entitled, "Breeding Your Mare: What's Involved?" The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 1 at the Health Sciences Building at RSU's Claremore campus. The cost is $20 per person, and a lunch will be provided.
Topics to be discussed include stallion selection, breeding contracts, artificial insemination, horse registrations, breeding certificates, mare preparations, breeding and foaling. Scheduled to make presentations are Vanessa Carlson from Woodridge Farms; Jennifer Western-Burrough, a Palomino Horse Breeders of America registrar; and Jim Shipman, DVM, with Shipman Veterinary Services.
RSU also will present an eight-week course on horseback riding by instructor Ann Hermann. The classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays between March 26 to May 14 at the horse arena on RSU's Claremore campus. The cost is $200. A limited number of horses will be available – for an additional fee – for those students without their own horses.
