RSU Names Vice President for Academic Affairs
Richard Boyd – a chief academic officer in Alabama and specialist in organizational and mass communication – has been named vice president for academic affairs at Rogers State University.
Boyd's appointment was approved recently by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents – RSU's governing board. He will lead RSU's academic affairs office, which oversees its three academic schools. He will assume the position on July 22.
Boyd has served as dean of academic affairs – the top academic position – at Athens State University in Athens, Ala., since 1992. Currently, he is the president of the Alabama College System Instructional Officers Association, an organization of chief academic officers from 29 institutions in Alabama.
Previously, he was dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at Black Hills State University in Black Hills, S.D., where he also served as chair of the communication division, professor of speech communication and faculty director of the campus radio station.
He has been involved with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools – the primary accrediting body for institutions in the south – since 1992, serving as a visitation team member and attending annual meetings.
He has presented a wide variety of papers, presentations and speeches on a variety of topics including critical thinking skills, creative problem solving and development of a two-year curriculum at four-year institutions. He has received several faculty research grants.
He also has served on boards and committees for community organizations such as the American Red Cross and United. Way.
He received a Ph.D. in speech, organizational and mass communication from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, a master's degree in speech education from South Dakota State University in Brookings and a bachelor's degree in history and speech from Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.
