RSU Names Assistant Professor of Humanities

Greg Petersen has been named assistant professor of humanities at Rogers State University.

Petersen's appointment was approved recently by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents RSU's governing board.

Petersen will join the faculty of RSU's Department of Communication and Fine Arts, located in its School of Liberal Arts.

His dissertation, entitled "Entering Art: Titles and Other Portals," provided a theoretical exploration of titles as portals and their relationship to the works they represent. The dissertation drew upon works from a variety of artistic forms including musical performances, film, photography and literature.

He previously served as a lecturer in arts, literature and culture for the University at Albany and as education director for the University Art Museum at the University at Albany.

Petersen's musical performances on the double bass and electric bass have been featured in a variety of commercial recordings including the trailer to Walt Disney's "The Adventures of Huck Finn" and the preview for Walt Disney's "Tarzan." He also has performed with international musical performers, Broadway musicals, opera and ballet companies, and the Faculty Jazz Quartet at Michigan State University.

He earned a doctoral degree in humanistic studies from the University at Albany, State University of New York, a master's degree in musicology/art history and a bachelor's degree in music performance both from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
