RSU To Offer Free Event on College Life For High School Students and Parents

High school students and their parents can learn about college life, selecting a major, and applying for financial aid and scholarships at Rogers State University's "Destination RSU: College Day 2002" on Saturday, March 2.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon at RSU's main campus in Claremore.

In addition, prospective students will be able to spend the night in RSU's new student residence hall on Friday – the night before the event. "Overnight Friday" will feature special events for prospective students including dinner, a movie and other social activities.

"Overnight Friday" will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, March 1, at RSU's new student residence hall, located on the west side of the Claremore campus.

"Destination RSU" will begin with registration and free continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at Post Hall.

"This special event is designed to help students and parents in making important decisions about attending college and taking advantage of the wide variety of scholarship and financial aid opportunities available at RSU," said Becky Noah, RSU Director of Enrollment Management.

RSU President Dr. Joe Wiley will address high school students, their parents, and their families at 9 a.m.

"Destination RSU" will feature two breakout sessions at 9:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. for prospective students and their parents. Topics will include college life, applying for admission and financial aid, and taking advantage of the many student support services and activities at RSU. The sessions will be held at various locations on RSU's Claremore campus.

Guided tours of the historic Claremore campus will be provided throughout the morning.

Faculty advisors from each of RSU's academic schools will be available to meet one-on-one with students and parents to answer questions about choosing a major and enrolling in the right classes.

Two RSU scholarships will be awarded as door prizes.

At 11 a.m., a complimentary lunch will be served at Post Hall overlooking Douglas Lake for all students and their families.

Tours of RSU's new student residence hall will be given immediately following the event.
