David T. Vandewater
David T. Vandewater is a healthcare executive who has focused his career on building value by meeting the needs of healthcare consumers. As president and chief executive officer, Mr. Vandewater brings more than 30 years of health care management expertise to Ardent Health Services.
Claremore Regional Hospital joined the Ardent family of hospitals in September 2011. The Hillcrest HealthCare System now totals six hospitals and more than 200 physicians in Tulsa and northeast Oklahoma.
He joined the company as chairman of Behavioral Health Corporation, Ardent’s predecessor company, in February 2001.
Prior to joining Ardent, Mr. Vandewater served as president and chief operating officer of Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation. Under his leadership, the company grew to become the world’s largest health care organization with $20 billion in annual revenues and more than 340 hospitals, 130 surgery centers and 550 home health locations. During his career, he has served in executive positions ranging from CEO of Vista Hills Medical Center in El Paso to executive vice president and chief operating officer at Republic Health Corporation.
Mr. Vandewater is a member of the American Hospital Association Health Care Systems Governing Council. He is past Chairman of the Federation of American Hospitals and presently serves on its board, as well as the boards of the Nashville Health Care Council and the Nashville Symphony.
Mr. Vandewater also serves on the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee. A native of El Dorado, Arkansas, Mr. Vandewater holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Henderson State College and a Master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Houston Clear Lake.
