Dr. Nat Hardy received a doctoral degree in
Renaissance literature from the University of Alberta, a Master of Fine
Arts in Creative Writing from Louisiana State University, a master's
degree in Restoration literature from McMaster University, and a
bachelor's degree in English and Philosophy from the University of
Alberta.
Before coming to RSU,
Dr. Hardy held teaching positions at several universities including:
Oklahoma State University, Louisiana State University, McMaster
University and the University of Alberta. At RSU, Dr. Hardy teaches
creative writing, literature, composition and service learning with
Habitat for Humanity. He is also the faculty advisor for two student
organizations, the American Red Cross Corps of Rogers State University
and the Rogers State University Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter.
Dr. Hardy’s primary
areas of interest include creative writing (poetry, fiction and
screenwriting), Renaissance literature, the literature of disease,
medieval and early modern anatomy, theories of disgust and the
grotesque, and service learning with the American Red Cross and Habitat
for Humanity.
Dr. Hardy is
actively involved in publishing, editing and writing. His creative work
and scholarly work has appeared in journals in the U.S., Canada, the
U.K. and the Czech Republic. Dr. Hardy has also edited a number of
literary journals. At LSU he was Editor-in-Chief of the New Delta
Review and an editorial staff member of the Exquisite Corpse.
At OSU, Dr. Hardy was an assistant editor of the Cimarron Review.
He currently holds editorial positions with Nimrod: International
Journal of Prose and Poetry and the online journal, The Muse
Apprenticeship Guild and is a mentor and judge for Penning With the
Pros.
Dr. Hardy has received numerous scholarships and academic awards
including the Robert Penn Warren Memorial Award for Poetry and the
Louise Glück Academy of American Poets Award for Poetry, an Arch
Humanitarian Award from McMaster University and most recently, a
Community Service Award for Excellence from Oklahoma State University.
His current projects include a poetry book, In the Temple of
Off-Ramps, a short fiction collection, Small Betrayals, and
an art/poetry collaboration with English artist Julian Grater entitled
Another Place.
