Music Program

RSU Band logoThe music program at Rogers State University provides an opportunity for students to hone their instrumental and performance skills in a university environment.

With a minor in music now available, RSU offers a selection of academic music classes each semester, in addition to the four ensembles now in the curriculum.

As always, we are happy to have each of our ensembles open to community members and area high school students in addition to RSU students. Each of the ensembles may be taken for one credit or with the zero credit option, where there is no charge to sign up for the class.

Jazz Band

Jazz band performances are held in the Centennial Center and the Will Rogers Auditorium on the RSU campus in Claremore, as well as area public schools and other community venues in northeast Oklahoma. The Jazz Ensemble primarily plays big band swing jazz as well as a variety of other jazz styles.

Concert Band

The newest ensemble at RSU, the Concert Band is continuing to grow each semester. The Concert Band performs during the first part of the fall semester and the second half of the spring semester, before and after the RSU Pep Band begins to play for the basketball season each year. The band plays a variety of wind band literature and is open to the community.

Pep Band

The pep band will consist of 10-25 members, who will play all the typical instruments of the indoor athletic pep band. The band will play at home games of the RSU men's and women's basketball program, and other campus events.

  1. There will be an attendance policy for students and scholarship students. Excused absences are always excused, but excessive absences, even if excused, will affect the ability of the individual to participate in the ensemble next year.
  2. Certain instruments (piccolos, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, mellophone, baritone, and sousaphone) will be available for the student from RSU. Information will be distributed to those students directly. In addition, electronic instruments (guitar, bass guitar) will be provided with amplification.
  3. The uniform for the ensemble will consist of the band polo shirt and khaki trousers. Ensembles will be provided with the polo shirt by the first game.

Choir Program

The University Choir is open to all students and community members alike with no audition necessary. Explores the different genres and practices of the modern collegiate Mixed Choir through public performance.
